Janhvi Kapoor's role in the upcoming sports action drama 'Peddi' was originally intended for her younger sister, Khushi Kapoor, according to director Buchi Babu Sana. In a revealing interview, Sana shared the awkward yet necessary conversation he had with Khushi about the role switch, explaining why he ultimately chose Janhvi for the part.
Sana initially approached Khushi for the role of Achiyamma, but a face-to-face meeting changed his mind. He discovered that Khushi was too young for the character, which led to a challenging decision. In the same household, he had to reject Khushi and offer the role to her sister, Janhvi.
"I felt bad and asked Janhvi if Khushi didn't take offence," Sana said. "I explained why I rejected her sister. I looked at Khushi, told her hi, and said, 'I don't want you in the film; I want your sister.' But such things need to be done for cinema. From the beginning, I just knew this role would suit Janhvi. Even as I narrated it to others, I would imagine her in the role."
Sana's decision to cast Janhvi in 'Peddi' showcases his keen eye for talent and his commitment to the story. The film, set in 1980s rural Andhra Pradesh, explores the worlds of cricket and traditional wrestling. It stars Ram Charan, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, and Divyenndu, with the trailer set to drop on May 18.
The director's choice of Janhvi Kapoor for the role has sparked curiosity and discussion among audiences. While some may question the decision, Sana's explanation provides insight into the creative process behind casting choices in the film industry. It highlights the delicate balance between talent, character suitability, and the need to make difficult decisions for the success of a project.
As 'Peddi' prepares for its June 4 release, the conversation around Janhvi's casting continues. The film's exploration of sports and traditional Indian culture, combined with its talented cast, promises to deliver an engaging cinematic experience. Whether the audience agrees with Sana's casting choices or not, 'Peddi' is set to make its mark in the world of Indian cinema.
